Welcome to WAHI !
The News

The Wisconsin Association of Homicide Investigators was founded in 1996 in response to requests for specialized training in the area of death investigation. The object of forming the association was to further the education of it's members, and all law enforcement. Since that time the Annual Training Conference of the Wisconsin Association of Homicide Investigators has drawn attendees from across the United States.

WAHI has established a reputation for bringing in only the best trainers in their fields. They have been brought in from all over the world to share their expertise, in a wide variety of subjects, with our members. The training received during the conference, and the networking with other investigators,is invaluable to anyone involved in death investigation. WAHI members include local, state and federal law enforcement officers, coroners and medical examiners, prosecutors and others who work in this field.

The News

Dear WAHI Members:

The Wisconsin Association of Homicide Investigator’s (WAHI) Board of Directors and Officers have been working hard over the past many months in preparation for WAHI’s 2010 Annual Training Seminar.  The 2010 Training Seminar will be entitled “CAREER SURVIVAL – THE BULLET PROOF MIND,” and it will be held at the Hotel Mead in Wisconsin Rapids from April 21-23, 2010.  Many of you should have already received the training brochure in the mail, but if you have not already received the brochure, it is attached to this message for your review.  If you are a WAHI Member in 2010, the conference registration fee will be $225.  If you are not a member for 2010, the conference fee will be $275.   I hope to see many of you at the conference.Speaking of membership, as of November of 2009, WAHI had approximately 159 active members, but we have over 400 members listed in our books.   In attending the International Homicide Investigators Association‘s 2009 Symposium in August, I learned that WAHI is one of the largest law enforcement organizations in the country dedicated to the advancement of training to death investigators.  I am proud to serve as the WAHI President for 2009-2010, and I look forward to the continued growth of the membership in WAHI.  The Wisconsin Department of Justice, Division of Criminal Investigation had two death investigation schools in Green Lake in 2009, so the WAHI membership for 2010 has grown by an additional 83 death investigators (whose membership dues of $25 have been waived for 2010).I want to remind all the other WAHI members, both active and in-active, that the membership dues of $25 will be due in January of 2010 in order to maintain your membership within WAHI for 2010.  If you decide to attend the WAHI conference in 2010, and you are not an active member, the registration of the conference will cost you or your agency $50 more than that of active WAHI members.  I urge you to stay updated with your WAHI membership for 2010, if only to keep the cost of your conference registration fees less expensive.       I want to remind all WAHI Members that nominations for Death Investigator of the Year, Prosecutor of the Year, Meritorious Service Award, Distinguished Service Award, Public Service Award, in addition to a WAHI Memorial are still being accepted by the WAHI Awards Committee.  If you have any questions about submitting an award, you can contact Awards Chairman Steve Brinza at (414) 702-0119 or e-mail address of Flash4353@yahoo.com.Also, WAHI is always looking for active members to become a member of the Board of Directors or an officer.  Please contact Nominations Chair Terry Moede at (715) 526-7906 or e-mail address of law519@co.shawano.wi.us if you wish to serve on WAHI’s Board of Directors or desire to be the next president, secretary or Treasurer.  The only requirement is that you need to have been an active member of WAHI for at least one year.In updating everyone about the Cold-Case Homicide or Missing person’s cards that WAHI is in the process of creating for hopeful distribution in the prisons and jails in Wisconsin, WAHI currently has approximately 40 cases ready to go for distribution, however, a deck of cards contains 52 cards, so we need 12 more cold case homicides or missing persons cases in order to complete the deck of cards.  If your agency would like to become involved in this program, please notify me at my desk phone of 608-266-7002 or my e-mail of holmesjc@doj.state.wi.us and I will provide you with more information about how to be included in this program. Lastly, attached to this message is a brochure for the Wisconsin Coroner’s and Medical Examiner’s Association’s (WCMEA) Conference that is scheduled to take place in Rothschild, Wisconsin between January 11-13, 2010.  The conference provides a lot of great death investigation training, so please review the attached brochures to determine your interest in that training as well.Thank you for your membership in WAHI and if you have any questions about WAHI please go to our website at www.wi-homicide.org.  I look forward to seeing all of you in Wisconsin Rapids in April 2010.Sincerely, James Holmes (WAHI President, 2009-2010)
